On Portrayl, you can start a story and extend it a chapter at a time. However, if you don't like the way a story is going, you can write your own version of a chapter and create a new direction for the story, but still keep the existing story intact. This is the unique and novel concept behind Portrayl. When a user adds a chapter, it branches off the story into a new direction, each of which is available for others to extend or read. So a story won't just lead to one ending, but could potentially create a family of imaginative and individual books.
The more we write, the more we can read. All the content on here is free to read, so you can search our library for your favourite characters or by genres or just for the best rated stories. Plus, all the completed books on this site are available to read as serialised RSS feeds, PDF documents and on this site. So if you want to take a break from writing, try reading some of the stories on the site.
There are few things you should know before you get started. This information can be found on the How To page. But putting it more simply, just be creative and get writing! That's it; or nearly. All the content on the site is free to read, so get reading as well.
