My Love

  • Chapter 1, The End

Rebecca tries to commit suicide, and meets Shaun in the hospital, after she has failed in taking her life. They fall inlove, and he helps her get away.

'This is it.' I thought to myself, and quickly downed the bottle of poison.

I felt it burning down my throat, and the whole inside of my body started aching.

'No. Please. Let it stop.' I thought desperately, crying out in pain.

"Miss Rebecca!" I heard one of the maid's scream, before everything went black.

The last thing I noticed was that I bumped my against the side of my dressing table, but I didn't even acknowledge the pain I should have felt.

I was on fire, from the inside.

As if from far away, I heard voices speaking.

"I can't believe she did it. She had everything anyone could dream of having." I heard a person saying.

I still didn't know whom, but the fog clouding my mind was slowly but steadily clearing.

I tried grasping the last pieces, but it just slipped away into nothingness, leaving me alone and letting all the painful memories come back to haunt me.

I felt pain over my whole body.

My throat felt raw and dry, and I had trouble swallowing, and I felt the tears seep out from under my still closed eyelids.

"Oh good, I think she's finally waking up." The person said again.

I felt my eyes flutter open, and saw a few people gathered around me.

"Where am I?" I croaked.

"You're in the hospital, miss de Valle." Someone who looked like a doctor said.

I tried sitting up, but I was pushed down again, gently but firmly.

"You can't get up yet, you're still to weak. You've inflicted a lot of damage on your organs." The nurse said, and I glared at her.

"Don't...touch...me." I hissed, putting emphasis on every word.

She pulled her hands back as if she was burned, and I saw the doctor frown at me in a disapproving way.

"What?" I growled, and his eyes narrowed.

"I think it's time, Sister." He said, and she nodded.

He walked towards the door, but turned to me.

"You should speak with respect to your superiors." He said.

"Oh, I think you and I both know who the superior one is. It will be so easy, just a flick of my finger, and my parents would do my bidding. Anything to keep me happy." I said.

'And out from under their feet.' I added mentally.

I saw his face whiten, and I smiled at him coldly.

He turned and walked out of the room.

I saw the nurse looking at me, her pathetic face twisted into a mask of horror.

I grinned at her coldly, and she scurried out of the room like a scared rat.

I started tugging at the pipes they've stuck into me, and almost fell out of the bed when someone spoke suddenly.

"What the hell do you think you're doing? Do you want to die?" Someone exclaimed angrily.

I looked up to see the most gorgeous guy standing in the doorway, his face twisted with anger and frustration.

"Well, if I didn't want to die, I wouldn't have drunk the poison in the first place, would I?" I asked indifferently, noticing for the first time how dead and cold my voice sounded.

"I think we need to call in the psychiatrist." He said, and I growled angrily.

"I don't need a damn shrink." I shouted, and he looked at me suddenly, his eyes narrowing.

I realized for the first time, I had met a guy who I couldn't scare off easily.

"I think you do. And you're going to talk to someone, even if I have to sit here for hours." He hissed, and I blinked in surprise.

Nobody had ever talked to me like that, and I burst into tears.

"Well, that's a very good first step. Patient shows other emotion or than anger." He said to himself.

"Get OUT!!!" I screamed, and he shrugged, and walked out.

I screamed into my pillow, and felt drowsiness cloud my mind.

"She should sleep it off now." I heard him say, and before I could respond, everything went black.

I woke up in the middle of the night.

I started tugging out all the pipes and got out of bed.

I walked over to the window, opened it and climbed onto the sill.

The windows were long and wide, and I fit under it perfectly.

I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and jumped.

"Rebecca!" I heard someone yell frantically, and I was pulled back roughly into the room.

"Why can't you just leave me alone?" I hissed angrily at him.

"Because-" He started saying, but I was getting angrier every second.

"Who the hell are you anyway?" I interrupted him.

"I'm Doctor Marks." He said, and I noticed him staring at me.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked, suddenly self-conscious.

"Did you know that you're beautiful when you're angry?" He asked, and I blushed.

(SPOV)

I haven't noticed before but she was very beautiful, with her long black hair, which shone red, whenever the light fell on it, and her flashing green eyes, her milky skin.

She started blushing and tried to get up from the floor, where we had fell when I had pulled her back from the window.

I held out my hand to help her up, and pulled her up a little to roughly.

She collided into me, and I grabbed her closer to keep her from falling.

I looked into her eyes, and saw pain and wariness there.

I slowly lowered my head, and kissed her softly.

She moaned, and clung to me, her arms snaking around my neck and getting tangled in my hair.

I pulled her closer, she was like a drug, and I just couldn't get enough of her.

(RPOV)

'I don't need this, but I want it. I feel so... loved.' I thought as he kissed me.

I didn't even know his name, or how old he was.

I pulled away, and he looked at me questioningly.

"I don't even know your real name. How old are you anyway?" I asked, and he smiled.

I thought I saw a look of relief cross his face, but when I blinked it was gone.

"My name is Shaun, I'm 21. I'm a medical student, and I'm doing practice for a year here." He said.

"Oh okay." I said, and he walked towards the window.

"Rebecca, I want to know why you tried to commit suicide." He said softly, still with his back to me.

"I was alone. I always felt like nobody cares, my parents were never at home, and I didn't have any friends. Everyone at school had always thought I'm stuck up, but they never bothered to find out. I got everything any girl could dream off, but it wasn't enough. I never got what matters the most, love from my parents. Whenever I started arguing with them, my dad threw me bunch of money, and my mom brought the most expensive clothes, anything to get me off their backs. They never wanted a child; I wasn't supposed to be here. If I had been successful, everything would have been all right. They would have been rid off me; they wouldn't have had to worry about an unwanted child, if they even did worry. They probably don't, they haven't even come to the hospital yet." Everything tumbled out, and I didn't even notice the tears flowing down my face.

Shaun sat down beside me, and pulled me to him, comforting me, until I fell asleep.

"Thank you for sharing that with me." He whispered.

I woke up a few hours later, and noticed I felt overheat. Someone was holding me, and I could feel a scream building up in my throat. A hand clamped over my mouth, and I felt terror seizing me.

"Shh, it's only me." It was Shaun, and he looked at me with concern.

"Why were you so scared?" He asked, and I shrugged.

I saw his eyes narrow, and I gulped nervously.

"I really don't know. I just felt ridiculously scared." I said truthfully.

He nodded thoughtfully, and started stroking my hair.

"I think you should get away from here, and go somewhere where you will be cared for and loved. My parents have a farm in Australia, and I'm going home in a few days anyway. It should work; they will love to help anyone. How old are you?" He asked me suddenly.

"Um, I'm eighteen. But I finished matric a few months ago." I said, and he nodded thoughtfully.

"Do you have a maid you could trust? That will help you?" He asked, and I nodded.

Maria was the only maid that wasn't ever silent. She was also lonely, and we got on quite well.

"Can I take her with me? She could help your parents and she will do anything. I know she's unhappy, and she won't betray me for any sum of money. I trust her." I said, and Shaun nodded.

"We need to make sure that no one will notice you're gone until it's too late. We should maybe disguise you, I'm sure everyone knows how you look, because of your father's importance. But it will be a shame to ruin your lovely hair. We should maybe just get a wig and contact lenses, and dull clothes. It should make you basically invisible. Do you know a way to get out of the house unnoticed?" He asked, and I nodded.

"Great. Then I'll come pick you up at midnight tomorrow night. You're going home today in any case. You have to explain to her very carefully. Take only the most necessary; you won't need all your fancy clothes on the farm." He said.

"I could have figured that out myself, you know." I said, and he smiled.

"I should probably get going, otherwise there's going to be trouble if they find you in my arms. Oh, and Rebecca? Don't stop anywhere on your way home." He said, and softly ran out of the room.

I was soon asleep again, but this time it was a deep, restful sleep.

"Miss de Valle?" I heard Shaun's voice, and knew there was a nurse with him.

I opened my eyes, and he winked at me when the nurse wasn't looking.
"What?" I asked angrily, and winked at him.

He nodded and smiled slightly.

"You can go home today. But you should please take it easy; otherwise you'll be back here very soon. You're still a bit weak, but if you get enough rest, everything should be fine." He said, and they walked out of the room.

I got up happily, and started dressing.

'Everything is going to be fine from now on. I'll be loved and cared for, and I will never see that awful place again.' I thought to myself, as I got dressed.

The nurse at reception called a taxi, and I was home in an hour.

"Miss Rebecca. I'm so happy that you are all right." Maria said happily.

I smiled at her, and motioned to her that she should follow me.

She nodded and followed meekly from a distance.

As soon as we were in my room, I closed the door and locked it, and we went into my dressing room.

I explained everything to her, just as Shaun had told me to.

She looked amazed when I finished.

"Of course Miss Rebecca. I will be very happy to help and be your confidante. I will write a letter, to Mr. De Valle, so they wouldn't get suspicious, to explain that I am quitting." She said, and I hugged her suddenly.

"Tomorrow night you come to my room at half past eleven, with your bags, and silently. I don't want any of the other maids to come barging in here, or calling the police." I said, and she nodded.

"You should go, before the others get suspicious." I said, and unlocked my door. She walked out, with washing, just in case.

I softly closed my door, and started going through my clothes, taking only the most necessary.

The hours flew by, and later that night Shaun called.

"Hey, how's everything going?" He asked.

"Everything is fine. We're both packed. Did you get it?" I asked him.

I knew he knew that I was talking about the wig and contact lenses.

"Yes. I'll see you tomorrow night. Remember, midnight." He said.

"Yes. I won't forget." I replied, rolling my eyes.

"I miss you." He said and hung up before I could say something.

I smiled, my heart doing flip-flops, and fell on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

"Miss Rebecca." I heard someone whisper through the door the next evening.

"Come in Maria." I said softly.

She came in, dressed in black, just like I was. That way we wouldn't get noticed easily.

I grabbed my bag and grabbed her hand, leading her towards the trap door that led outside.

"Don't scream." I whispered, and she jumped.

After I was sure she was out, I jumped as well, not even bothering to look at my room for the last time.

I grabbed her hand, and we ran silently towards the hedges.

When I was little, I used to climb through there, and went to sit in the field next to our house.

We climbed through the whole, and ran to Shaun's waiting car.

"Hey." He said, and pulled me to him.

I smiled at him, and he kissed me softly.

"Nice to meet you, Maria." He said, turning to acknowledge her where she sat in the backseat.

"Nice to meet you too, Sir." She said, and smiled happily at me.

I gently squeezed her hand, and her eyes filled with tears.

We drove to the airport in silence, each one busy with their own thoughts.

Every now and then Shaun smiled at me, touching my face, then my hand.

Maria was silent the whole time, but she was playing with my hair the whole way.

She had always loved playing with my hair, and I didn't mind letting her.

"We're almost there." Shaun said, just as we drove into the airport.

I heard Maria gasp in wonder, and smiled.

"We're going to be late for the flight, so quickly grab your bags, and walk quickly." He said, and we hurried along.

"Later. You can stare later." I whispered to Maria, and tugged her along.

When we got on the airplane, we all sighed in relief.

Luckily I had put on the wig and contact lenses on in the car, because there were a lot of people there.

Shaun held me closely the whole time, and I later fell asleep on his shoulder.

I felt Maria throw a blanket over us, and she sighed contently.

I knew I was like a daughter to her, and she would have made a much better mother than my own.

Hours later we stepped off the plane, and Shaun picked me up, twirling me around in the air.

We laughed happily, and he kissed me.

"Welcome to your new life." He said, and we all walked arm in arm towards our new lives. Together.
