Lost Causes and Dead Ends

  • Chapter 1, A Bump In the Night

Here the main Character Lydia(the witch) is traped in the forest behind the super market and calls her friend George(a mortal) who comes and saves her life.

As the fog settled in on the rapidly setting sun, the forest began to get a chill. There was no escape. The only thing she could do was to hide from the creature. If it couldn't sniff her out it would never be able to find her. She darted off to the creek near by. Maybe it would lose her sent in the water.
She took off into the creek she could hear the creature searching for her sent. The creature was hopeless and confused, it had lost her sent. It desperately searched for a whiff of her sent but there was none. "Yes!" she thought silently in her head. She slowly started to crawl out of the creek. She was soaked but she had been able to escape alive and safely. The only problem left is where she was!
She searched around blindly, stranded in the forest at night with out any light source other then the full moon that was rising above her head. If she waited till dawn the creature could pick up her sent and attack again. There was nothing left to do. She took out her cell phone and dialed a number.
"Hello, George? I need your help. You know the woods behind the super market? OK well I got into a bit of trouble and I'm stuck out here and can't find my way out. I'll explain when you get here. Bring a flashlight I don't have any light. OK thanks! See you soon."
About 15mins latter she could see a light faintly appear off in the distance. She could her him calling for her faintly she could barley make out what he was saying. She called out telling him where she was. Could he here her? She quickly got her mirror out of her purse. It was cracked in three places but still in tack, she held it up so that it would reflect when the flash light passed over. Yes! The light caught the mirror and he was running her way.
When he got to her he quickly swooped her up into his arms. She was relived he was here. He broke the embrace and started to evaluate her to see if she was hurt. She had a few minor burses but nothing major.
"Would you mind explaining what the hell you were doing out here!" he said forcefully. "You said you got into trouble? What did you do this time?" he said in a softer more companionate tone.
"Can we get out of here? I promise I'll tell you on the way to my house." She said in a pleading tone.
"Fine, lets get you to the market."
He helped her up and she leaned on him as they walked out of the woods towards the market parking lot. When they got to the truck he lifted into the bed of the truck where he could see her condition better. She was worse then he has thought. There was a long deep but on the back of her leg where a branch got her as she was running. He went into the front of the car and got a bottle of water. He took off his shirt exposing his muscular chest and arms. He tore a section of it and wet it with the water. He handed what was left of the bottle to her. She quickly drank it as he took the wet scrap and started to clean the wound.
"Would you mind explaining now?" he said in a peeved way.
"Fine" she said giving in "I was at the market and I was checking out when this guy started following me. I didn't think much of it at first but then I got into my car and he knocked on the window. I ignored him and started to back up. I was backing up when I hit something. I got out seeing what it was and he got into the truck. I ran inside to get some help from the clerk and he drove the truck into the store!" she said as her voice increased intensity. "I ran out of the store and into the woods to see if he would follow and he did. I was trying to get away from him. When I knew I had lost him and I stopped, but I had no clue where I was. That's when I called you."
"What's the gash from?" he said
"It got caught on a branch." She said nervously.
"Are you all right? Are you going to be ok?"
"Yeah I think. I wonder what my insurance company is going to say about this." She said sarcastily.
"Come on its getting late I'll take you home." He said.
"Come on its getting late I'll take you home." He said.
As the got into the truck she caught glimpse of a shadow. She looked to see what it was but it was gone. She got into the truck and put on her seat belt. There was an awkward silence the whole way home. When the got to her house she got out and before she closed the door she said "Thanks I know you didn't have to come get me."
"Well its not like I could just leave you stranded."
"Well thanks anyways." She said heading towards the house.
As the truck pulled out of the drive way she saw the shadow again. The creature had followed her the entire way home. If she placed a charm on the house he wouldn't be able to get her but she couldn't exactly stay home and never come out. It would have to hold for tonight. She watched out the window as the creature began to leave.
