The next morning she woke up she was exhausted she had slept most of the day already. She walked downstairs and into the kitchen. She started a pot of coffee and turned on the TV. The TV flickered on and the news was on. There was an attack at a local farm on one of the livestock. The animal was found dead with its belly slit wide open and its heart missing. Nothing is known about the killer, the police are still investigating.
After hearing the headlines she turned the TV off and quickly drank a cup of coffee. She burned her mouth on the coffee but that wasn't important right now she had to get to the market. She quickly ran up stairs and got dressed. When she went down stairs and grabbed the keys off the counter she realized that her car had been driven into the super market. Damn! How would she get to work? She grabbed the house phone and dialed Kady's number. Maybe she could get a lift from her.
"Hello, Kady! My car is in the shop can you give me a lift? Hello, Kady? You there?" she said as the phone went dead silent. There was no one on the other side. Then she heard a voice.
"Hello Lydia." The voice said in an eerie whisper. "I know what you are. Just let me in and we'll talk."
She quickly hung up the phone. Defiantly not Kady! Who was it? What was it? Then it dawned on her. She quickly ran upstairs and took a large duffle bag from the closet. She quickly stuffed all the cloths that she could around her. Along with her tooth brush, the open tube of tooth paste, a brush and her shampoo. She grabbed her cell phone off the coffee table and quickly put it in her pocket. Then she realized that the car was not there! How would she get out? She took the cell phone from her pocket and took out a phone book from underneath the counter. Quickly scanning through the pages looking for the number of a cab company, any cab company. When she found the number she dialed the number on her phone.
"Hello? I need a cab please!" she said in a panic.
"Trying to run away?" said the voice from earlier. "Nice try but you can do better then this."
"Get away! I want nothing to do with you or your type! Now leave me alone!" she said.
"Not so fast darling. You have something I need and I'm not leaving with out it." The voice said.
"What is it you want? What ever it is money? Jewelry? Take it, it's yours just leave me alone!"
"You know what it is! I expect to see you tonight in the forest! You won't get away from me this time!" said the voice as the phone line once again went dead.
She quickly hung up the phone. She ran up stairs and got prepared of the evening's events. She wasn't going to be alone defenseless this time. She gathered a knife and put it carefully in her left boot. Then she went to the bathroom and took the ripped shirt from her leg, the wound wasn't infected. Since it wasn't infected she could heal it with a simple spell. She took the gauze from the cabinet and started wrapping her leg, she held it with a little tuck so that it would hold while she prepared the spell mixture.
When she got down stairs she pulled an assortment of bottles out and got out some lavender, with some olive oil. She mixed the assortment of liquids in the bottles into a large bowl then added the lavender. As she pored in the olive oil as she said a few words of an old healing spell she had learned from her grandfather. She took off the gauze and soaked it in the mixture. When it was fully soaked she took it and rewrapped it and finished the spell.
She turned on the TV while she let the spell take affect. When the screen turned on it was still on the news. There appeared to be another attack. She noticed something in the background though. The shadow was there again.
"He's out during the day?" she thought. "This isn't right! It can't be. My grandfather killed him years ago!"
It was only hours till she was to meet him in the forest. The knife wouldn't do anything. There was no time to go to the attic it would have to hold things off. The most she can do is curse it. There was no time to do much she took out a book her grandfather had given her and looked for the curse of light. When she found it she quickly recited the words and instantly the knife started glowing a pail red. Done and just in time too. She took of the bandages and evaluated the wound on her leg. It had healed completely. She murmured a praise of thanks to her grandfather and took the dagger and shoved it back into the boot. The clock down the hall began to chime. The time had come, this was it.
