My fairy king

  • Chapter 2, Chapter II

Belenus continues to seek out the generals

Belenus was much more concentrated during the visits to the next five generals. Cadell and his younger brother Cadoc was out watching the city guards' training session, Wystan supervised the work out in his quarry, Rayner was at home and Kimball to. The visits was short, all he had to do was to deliver the message and the generals hurried away, but it had still taken a long time since they where so far away from each other. He was out of breath when he landed in the twilight of yet another enormous and highly decorated livinghole.
"Message to General Guiomar! It's from the king!" he yelled at the same time as he tried to catch his breath, but soon he forgot to breathe entirely. A young woman, probably not more than twice his own age, glided smoothly from an adjacent room. Her milky skin and icy blue, almost white wings, was highly accentuated by her short, blue-black hair. It looked like she glowed. She floated up to Belenus, the fragile wings slightly fluttering.
"Pardon me, Ma'am, but I'm looking for the General." he said with a deep bow, almost worthy the King "I have an important message from the King. Can you tell me where I can find General Guiomar?"
"She is standing right in front of you" answered the woman with a calm, frosty voice. "What's the message?"
"The king has summoned the Generals to a council. The city is under attack from the sparrow-dragons." he said, and then, just because he felt embarrassed of his mistake, he added, "I'm really sorry, General, I just assumed..."
"You assumed that I would be a man." she finished for him. "Don't worry. Most men do" she continued in the same frosty voice. It reminded him of the sound that the frozen crust of the snow made when you stepped on it.
