Licensing?
posted by fmonster on Sun, May 13th, 10:42.
Hey all, great site, just joined.
I have my own blog (recently started) over at http://www.fictionmonster.com and I've been putting up stories there under a Creative Commons License (the attrib-no-derivs-non-commerical to be precise). I was just wondering what licenses the work on this site uses (or doesn't) as if I want to cross the work over here I'll have to modify my own licensing to include derivatives.
Thanks for your help.

Hi PJ
Thanks for joining, and blogging about us too!
Our licensing tries to achieve the following:
You own the copyright to your work, but you also give the right for Portrayl users to adapt it (non-commercially), in their own follow up chapters. Thirdly Portrayl also gets a non-exclusive license to the work. This is if the site takes off - we can hopefully publish works in a revenue sharing type way - though this is a little pie in the sky right now.
So we tried to achieve that in the legalisms by using the following licensing for works
"You also hereby grant each user of the Portrayl Website access to your User Submissions under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported Licence" - you can find that here
So I guess the difference between your current license and the license Portrayl uses is the share-alike derivatives part. I'm not a legal eagle, so I'm not sure about how to switch the license type. I can check it up for you though
I hope this helps

Thanks Tejas,
I should have done some more reading and seen the license you already posted. :) I'll be changing my work over to that very license soon (pretty easy to do).
Loving the direction the site is going in at such an early stage, and will post my first short sometime later today.
